Portofino Island Resort and Spa
You never know quite what you’ll get suite-wise at this 28-acre condominium resort. That’s because all of the units are owned by individuals, so there’s no consistency to the décor: sometimes it’s the type of furnishings you’d love to have in your own beachside property, other times it’s clear that the owners are just trying to turn a quick buck by renting out their units. That said, all of suites are more like full 2 to 3 bedroom apartments in size, and set in five, 21-story towers. Each has whirlpool tubs, full kitchens, and water views. Location also couldn’t be better, at the quieter east end of Pensacola Beach and adjacent to the pristine beaches of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. The resort’s Lifestyle Center has two heated, multi-tiered infinity pools, an indoor heated pool, whirlpool spas, saunas, steam rooms, spa and waterfront fitness center. For dining there are four bars and restaurants, a market, Starbucks and smoothie bar. Families especially love this place for its zip line, go-karts, ropes course, splash pad, and range of recreational activities (sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, boogie boarding, surfing, cruises, tennis, offsite golf, fitness classes, hiking, biking, excursions, and more). One word of caution: Because this place is a massive condo/hotel, maid service can be spotty in the condo units. Be sure you request daily service when booking.
