This is about as good as it gets for an upscale family resort. There’s lots for kids to do, but the place is spread out enough that you don’t get a Disney feel at all. A slew of events each day—from desert-animal demonstrations to a bagpiper at sunset—give the place a lively vibe, but it’s also easy to find your own space, whether at the cowboy bar, the “Scotch library,” etc. A giant pool with a lazy river keeps families occupied, while the extra-large “adults pool” stays serene. You’re right next door to the Kierland Commons open-air mall, which has a variety of high-end shops, restaurants, and novelties like a Tesla store, and the upscale Scottsdale Quarter right across the street from that, which has, among other things, a ritzy iPic movie house. So this is an unbeatable place for those who want to hole up and take it easy but not get bored by the surroundings. Guest rooms all have balconies or patios; be sure to request a room overlooking the golf course and the mountains to the north. The best of the in-house restaurants, deseo, is one of the best hotel restaurants in the Valley.
