This previously inconsistent operation at an unbeatable locale—the enormous Wrigley Mansion, impressively perched on a hill high above the Biltmore—is now a must-visit. Chef Christopher Gross, known for his excellent restaurant Christopher’s in the Biltmore Fashion Square, has taken over the food operation at the mansion and is in the midst of renovations, which among other things will include a new tasting restaurant to open sometime in 2019. For now, his classic French cooking and the massive mansion, with its various bars and porches and gardens, combine for an unmatchable evening. Foie gras is a must, as is the duck confit. De rigueur: The soufflés, which are generally Grand Marnier or chocolate; they take 30 minutes to prepare, so order them when your entrees arrive. Tip: Make a reservation for whenever sunset is, and arrive an hour earlier for drinks at the bar. Hang out on the porch and take in terrific Valley views as the sun says its goodbye. Then go in and see what Christopher has in store.
