Named in honor of Phuket’s mining past, The Slate is a chic design hotel close to quiet Nai Yang Beach. Without an experienced designer, all the industrial elements could feel too sterile, but American-born and Thailand-based Bill Bensley (of Four Season Tented Camp fame) carefully guided the hotel to a place where harsh lines meet tropical fauna to create something magical. There are three pools on the property, including an adults-only infinity pool, and many of the rooms include private butlers and in-room massage facilities. Speaking of the rooms, they’re total sanctuaries with lots of space to relax, exotic flowers, and natural elements. The restaurants are trendy and guests enjoy modern takes on Thai classics, happy hour at the bar, and craft beer promotions on Fridays. Surprisingly, the place is tops for families and there is a kids’ pool, kiddie cooking classes, scavenger hunts, and a kids’ club.
