Frank’s Oyster Bar

★★ NEW ZEALAND MODERN—The name of this joint is misleading on so many levels. First off, the man behind the ship is local chef Sam Webb. Second, although it looks like a classic New York bar with its subway tiles and industrial light fixtures, it has full dinner menu with drinks to match. Which brings us to the third point: There’s so much more than oysters. Featuring share plates (including some that can safely be eaten as mains, for those less interested in sharing), the emphasis here is on local. Bread comes served with locally grown black garlic butter. Seafood is from the Sound. Even the wild game has been hunted and harvested ethically. Vegetarians won’t go hungry. Everyone will be happy. Even Frank—whoever he is.
