Because Playa Herradura, Playa Hermosa de Jacó (not to be confused with either Playa Hermosa in Guanacaste or Playa Hermosa on the Nicoya Peninsula), Playa Esterillos, and Playa Bejuco are close, many people choose accommodations in these beach towns as well.

In addition to the places listed below, the oceanfront Apartotel Girasol (tel. 800/923-2779 in U.S. or Canada or 2643-1591 in Costa Rica), with 16 fully equipped one-bedroom apartments, is a smart option for longer stays, as is Vacasa (tel. 8178-5585), which has dozens of condo rentals throughout Jacó. Hotel Poseidon (tel. 2643-1642) is a pretty boutique hotel in the heart of downtown, while Hotel Pumillo (tel. 2643-5678) is on the outskirts of town, right the edge of the jungle. Canciones del Mar (tel. 888/260-1523 in the U.S./Canada, or 2643-3273 in Costa Rica) is a good option on the beachfront

There are quite a few backpacker hostels around town, so if you’re looking to stay here on the cheap, walk the strip and see who’s got the best room at the best price. Decent options include Buddha House (tel. 2643-3615), a “boutique hostel” in the heart of Jacó, the Jacó Inn (tel. 2643-1935), which calls itself “the perfect balance between tranquilidad and fiesta,” and the low-key Perico Azul (tel. 2643-1341), a few blocks from the beach.

If you’re looking for something remote and undeveloped, head to Playa Esterillos Este and the Hotel Pelicano (tel. 2778-8105), a homey, beachfront bed-and-breakfast.

Note: Playa Esterillos and Playa Bejuco are about midway between Jacó and Manuel Antonio, so it’s very useful to have a rental car if staying here.
