Playa del Coco is one of Costa Rica’s liveliest beach towns after dark. Most of the action is centered along a 2-block section of the main road into town, just before you hit the beach. Here you’ll find the Lizard Lounge ★ (tel. 2670-0307), which has a raucous party vibe. Just across the street is the large, open-air Zi Lounge ★★ (tel. 2670-1978). For a gringo-influenced sports bar hangout, try Coconutz ★ (tel. 2670-1982;, with frequent live bands, DJs, and movie nights. On the south end of the beach, reached via a rickety footbridge over the estuary, you’ll find La Vida Loca ★ (tel. 2670-0181), a lively beachfront bar with a pool table, Ping-Pong table, foosball table, and live bands.

If you head north on the dirt road running parallel to the beach, you'll find Café de Playa, which has a laid-back Euro-chic feel to it.
