Rates begin around $500 to $650 nightly for one- and two-bedroom units, to well over $1,000 for some of the more luxurious three-bedroom and larger units. Be sure to check Airbnb and VRBO, too, as owners of these condos will often advertise there.

For something a little farther from the beach, Pumilio Mountain & Ocean Hotel (tel. 800/410-8018 in U.S. and 2643-5678 in Costa Rica) is a boutique hotel and spa, located on a hillside a bit inland, between Playa Herradura and Jacó.
