Chef Jean-Luc Taulere, who owned the much beloved but now closed Mar y Sol restaurant, now runs this casual beachfront bar and restaurant. It has a lovely setting, with teak tables under white canvas umbrellas spread out on the sand at the far southern end of Playa Flamingo. The menu features such items as blackened swordfish wraps, fresh yellowfin tuna tacos, and slow-cooked pork ribs in a pineapple barbecue sauce. Some dishes are served inside a hollowed-out half-coconut, including the fresh ceviche; homemade coconut ice cream; and house specialty Loco Coco, a coconut rice dish featuring mussels, octopus, and fresh-caught snapper, with a Thai-inspired basil, ginger, and lime sauce. Come for a frozen tamarind mojito at sunset (there’s an extensive cocktail menu) and stay through the evening; there’s often live music after sundown.
