Paul Gauguin loved this inland village, with its white houses flanking the River Aven on its gentle course to the Atlantic. It’s also known for 15 moulins, or water mills, that once operated along the waterways. Only one of them is still functional, but the rest have been restored for historical and aesthetic purposes. With such picturesque surroundings, one might suspect Pont-Aven of being a tourist trap, but its modest, pleasant atmosphere endures.
