A pink-painted townhouse perched over the Douro on the old quayside where sailing ships used to moor to unload their cargoes of salt-cod, this is now a fancy boutique B&B in the atmospheric Ribeira district. It is cozy, family run and best for couples seeking an up-close immersion into Porto life, rather than an amenity-heavy hotel experience. Half the eight rooms look out right onto the Douro (offering views over to the wine lodges), a few have balconies. The decor is in natural stone, wood and azulejos. One room has a bed emerging from a huge stone fireplace. There's a comfortable lounge for relaxing and gazing out along the river. Breakfasts are a copious blend of fresh orange juice, cappuccinos, breads, pastries, fruit and eggs made to order. It's served as late as you like it.
