Who'd have thought that the best place in Positano for authentic Neapolitan-style pizza would be right in front of the ferry landing, the traditional province of tourist-traps and fleecing flingers of bad food? Well, I was surprised, too. One of several dining options inside the upscale Hotel Covo dei Saraceni, the Brasserie is a place you sort of have to know about, and it's a wonderful find. Not only can you get excellent, inexpensive food here, it's also open non-stop throughout the day. You can sit at the tables outside overlooking the water, but I sort of prefer the inside, whose bright white space recalls a vintage ocean liner, and where you can watch the pizzas being baked in a wood-fired oven. In true Naples style, the pies are ready in a flash, and taste best with a cold beer. If you still have room, the hotel's artisanal gelateria is next door.
