La Gavitella
This airy seaside restaurant in Praiano offers expertly prepared seafood as well as blissful views of the muscular Amalfi Coast cliffs, Positano town, and Capri, all in an upscale but low-key setting. The dining room features elegant architectural finishes and a clean palette of white and tan, but it's not at all stuffy: An airy and fresh feeling is ensured by glass ceiling panels and huge open-air "windows" that let in both sea breezes and those amazing coastal vistas. The specialties here, served on colorful Vietri crockery, are seafood pastas with fresh local herbs and vegetables (and the exceptionally tasty linguine with local scabbardfish and lemon), and excellent grilled fish. Service is warm though subdued—waiters are bit more serious here than at your typical southern Italian trattoria. Although this is a spot I normally think of for lunch, it's also a great choice at sunset or in the full dark of night, when views of the twinkling lights of yachts in the bay and the far-off houses on Capri are just as mesmerizing. The restaurant can be reached by land or sea, the latter being the easiest method for those coming from Positano. La Gavitella will send a boat at no charge to pick you up at the marina.
