Hotels in Puerto Jimenez
As with most of the lodges in Drake Bay, the accommodations listed in this section include three meals a day in their rates and do a large share of their bookings in package trips. Per-night rates are listed, but the price categories have been adjusted to take into account the fact that all meals are included. Ask about package rates if you plan to take several tours and stay awhile: They could save you money.
In addition to the lodges listed below, options range from small B&Bs to fully equipped home rentals. Surfers, in particular, might want to inquire into one of several rental houses located close to the beach at Matapalo.
You can look into Finca Exótica Eco-Lodge ★ (www.fincaexotica.com; tel. 8828-0817), a delightful oceanview lodge with both private cabins and tented accommodations, and La Leona Eco-Lodge ★ (www.laleonaecolodge.com; tel. 2735-5705), a rustic lodge and tent-camp option on the outskirts of the national park.
This is a very isolated area, with just one gravel road connecting all the lodges, nature reserves, and parks. Almost all visitors here take all their meals at their lodge. If you want to venture away for some good, simple home cooking, head to Martina Hoffmann’s Buena Esperanza, right there on the main road at Carbonera, near Matapalo.
The listings below on this site are some of the best ecolodges Costa Rica has to offer, and most are pretty pricey. Bear in mind that the rooms have no TVs, telephones, or air-conditioning, the roads are not paved, and there are no towns to speak of. Consequently, there are also no crowds and few modern distractions. All of the lodges listed are between 40 minutes to a 2 hours outside of Puerto Jimenez, along a rough dirt road, with several river crossings.
