The former Crocodile Bay Resort, long a beloved destination for world-class anglers, transitioned into this Curio Collection by Hilton resort in late 2021. It’s the most modern resort on the Osa Peninsula, which has both pluses and minuses. One plus it it’s all encompassing: multiple bars and restaurants, individual condos and swish rooms done up in calming grays and whites, a lagoon-style pool, an in-house spa with treatments utilizing botanicals from the surrounding rainforest and the premier marina in southern Costa Rica. The negatives: this was once a corner of Costa Rica so remote and so set on conservation that corporate chains never made it here. Sure, the old Crocodile Bay resort was kitschy and worn, with carved wooden wahoo on the walls and crusty fishermen trading tales at the bar, but that was part of its charm! Will Botánika usher in a change across the peninsula? Only time will tell.
