Once completely isolated in the jungle, this small luxury hotel now has neighbors, including a large all-inclusive property. But it remains secluded and serene, thanks to dense vegetation and a thoughtful layout over 2.5 hectares (6 1/4 acres) of waterfront property. The original 30 villas are so thoroughly buried in vegetation you could skinny dip in your private pool or splash in your outdoor shower without worrying about your neighbors. Louvered wooden shutters block out light in the cool white rooms with large bathrooms and closets and white gauze draped around the beds. The property’s been expanded to include 11 villas either on the beach or with ocean views (original rooms are spread along winding paths away from the beach. Maya-inspired treatments are offered in the circular spa with a large whirlpool in the center, and the hotel is a popular spot for destination weddings conducted by a shaman. The restaurant’s menu is suitably sophisticated, and the selection of high-quality sipping tequilas is outstanding. Children 17 and older are welcome.
