The whala! (formerly the Alisios) is a small, budget resort of low, two-story buildings under tall palms. Its rooms are basic but clean (“superior” rooms come with two beds), the staff friendly and efficient.

No, it does not have the bells, whistles, and activities you’d find at a proper resort, but if you are just looking to relax on beach, nap in a hammock, and enjoy a simple, laid-back island vacation, it’s impossible to beat the value here (even adding in the extra $15 to use the safe, and $30 a week for Wi-Fi).

You can stay here on a simple bed-and-breakfast plan. However, upgrading to an all-inclusive plan only costs $18 more per room, so it is not bad option, even if the food is uninspiring.
