Of the big international chains in Quito, the JW, part of Marriott's upscale line that does particularly well in Latin American capitals, ranks near the top. Perfectly located in a business district near La Mariscal, the property is as much of a resort as it is an urban hotel. The sizable heated pool, complete with waterfalls and a Jacuzzi island, is a nice fit for the equatorial climate. Carved wooden doors guard each of the spacious rooms, which feature heavy wood furniture and colorful bedspreads. Many rooms come with views of the volcano, which are much preferred to the city views (or, even worse, interior views). There are five restaurants on site, offering everything from Mexican to sushi to steak. Unlike most hotel gyms in Quito, the JW's offers regular Tae Bo and yoga classes.
