Historische Wurstküche, Thundorferstrasse 3 (tel. 0941/466210; www.wurstkuchl.de), celebrated its 856th birthday in 2011, making it the oldest operating fast-food joint in all of Germany. A total of six of them, served with Sauerkraut and fresh bread, costs 7.50€. It's located next to the Steinerne Brücke, and tables have a river view. At various times the river has risen to flood the joint. It is open April to October daily from 8am to 7pm; November to March, it is open only on Sunday 8am to 3pm.

At Scala, Gesandtenstrasse 6 (tel. 0941/52293; www.scalaclub.de; bus: Altstadtbus), three bars hem in the dance floor and attract an under-35 crowd. It's open Wednesday to Sunday 11pm to 3am (Fri-Sat until 4am). Admission is 5€ to 10€.
