Planning a trip to Regensburg
Nearly all places of interest to visitors are in Regensberg’s Altstadt (Old Town). It’s an easy 10-minute stroll from the Hauptbahnhof to the town’s medieval core, and the walk takes you through the also-attractive 19th-century commercial district that expanded beyond the now-demolished medieval walls; almost the entire area is closed to car traffic. You can also hop onto one of the bright yellow Altstadt buses that line up along Maximilianstrasse, next to the station. One-way fare is 1€, and a day ticket valid for up to five people costs 2€ and must be purchased on the bus. Buses run at 6-minute intervals every Monday to Friday 8:30am to 8:30pm but there’s no service on Saturday and Sunday.
