City Layout

The two main streets are Victoria Avenue, which runs east-west, and Albert Street, which runs north-south. South of the intersection lies the Wascana Centre. Most of the downtown hotels stretch along Victoria Avenue between Albert Street on the west and Broad Street on the east. The RCMP barracks are to the north and west of the downtown. Lewvan Drive and Ring Road together encircle the city.

Special Events & Festivals 

During the first week of June, Mosaic: A Festival of Cultures (tel. 306/757-5990; www.reginamulticulturalcouncil.ca) celebrates the city's multiethnic population. Festival passports entitle you to enter pavilions and experience the food, crafts, customs, and culture of each group. Regina's Buffalo Days (tel. 888/734-3975 or 306/781-9200; www.buffalodays.ca), held the end of July into the first week in August, recalls the time when this noble beast roamed the West. Throughout the city, businesses and individuals dress in Old West style, while the fairgrounds sparkle with a midway, grandstand shows, big-name entertainers, livestock competitions, and much more.

Getting Around

Regina Transit (333 Winnipeg St.; tel. 306/777-7433; www.regina.ca) operates nine bus routes that make it easy to get around. For schedules and maps, go to the Transit Information Centre at 2124 11th Ave., at the Cornwall Centre, open weekdays 7am to 9pm and Saturday 9am to 4pm. Fares are C$2.50 per sector, or you can pay C$7 for a day pass. Exact fare is required.

Each of the following car-rental agencies also has a bureau at the airport: Avis (tel. 306/751-5460), Budget (tel. 306/791-6814), Enterprise (tel. 306/359-3535), Hertz (tel. 306/791-9131), National (tel. 306/757-5757), and Thrifty (tel. 306/525-1000).

You can most easily find taxis at downtown hotels. From downtown to the airport, the cost is about C$15. Capital Cab (tel. 306/791-2222) is the most-used service.

Getting There

There is no passenger rail service to Regina. The closest rail connections are in Saskatoon.

Regina Airport (www.yqr.ca) is west of the city, only 15 minutes from downtown. It is served by Air Canada (tel. 888/247-2262; www.aircanada.com) and WestJet (tel. 800/538-5696; www.westjet.com) from destinations throughout Canada, as well as by Delta (tel. 800/441-1818; www.delta.com) from the U.S. Express Air (tel. 877/392-2582 or 306/757-2582; www.expressairclub.ca) has scheduled flights between Saskatoon and Regina.

The Regina bus station is downtown, at 2041 Hamilton St. (tel. 306/787-3340). Greyhound, as well as Saskatchewan Transportation Company (www.stcbus.com), buses -- the dominant public transport services in the province -- use the station.

If you're driving, the Trans-Canada Highway passes just south of Regina.
