Many local farms offer 2- to 4-hour horseback-riding tours, which may include lunch and hotel pickup. Two excellent companies near Reykjavík are Íshestar, in Hafnarfjörður (tel. 555-7000; www.ishestar.is), and Laxnes Horse Farm, in Mosfellsdalur (tel. 566-6197; www.laxnes.is).

Reykjavík has three golf courses. The Reykjavík Golf Club (tel. 585-0200; www.grgolf.is) runs two 18-hole courses: the oceanside Korpúlfsstaðir to the northeast (Thorsvegur, off of Korpúlfsstaðavegur; Bus: 24) and the difficult Grafarholt, Iceland's premier championship course, to the east (Grafarholtsvegur, off Rte. 1; Bus: 15 or 18). Both are about a 15-minute drive from the city center and stay open summer evenings. Course fees are 6,400kr ($102/£51), club rental is 3,000kr ($48/£24), cart rental is 3,750kr ($60/£30), and trolley rental is 400kr ($6.40/£3.20). Closer to the center, in Seltjarnarnes, west of Reykjavík, is the casual 9-hole Golfklúbbur Ness, at the end of Suðurströnd (tel. 561-1930), with good ocean views (Bus: 11).
