Not many world capitals have good salmon fishing within city limits. The season for Reykjavík's Elliðaár River extends from June 1 to August 31, and opens with the mayor throwing the first cast. Contact the Angling Club of Reykjavík (tel. 568-6050; www.svfr.is) for information on permits and procedures. Also ask about trout and arctic char fishing in nearby lakes. For tackle and equipment, try Veiðihornið, Síðumúli 8 (tel. 568-8410).
For sea fishing, Elding (tel. 555-3565) has a 3-hour sea-angling tour for 14,900kr from May to September, leaving daily at 9am and 1:30pm, with grills on board.
