Around the Pond in Reykjavik

Tjörnin, the city's central pond, makes for a great circumambulatory walk. Several early-20th-century timber houses, built for the newly emergent middle class, are clustered along Tjarnargata on the western shore. It's worth strolling by to appreciate their gingerbread-house flourishes.
