Hôtel Troubadour

In a handsome converted farmhouse surrounded by rolling hills, this quaint hotel, just 3km (2 miles) from Rocamadour, is the perfect spot to escape the crowds. The rooms are spotless and fresh, with simple country-style wood furnishings and modern bathrooms. There are apartments for 4 or 5 people in an annex in the surrounding gardens, which also house a gariotte, a circular stone hut once used by shepherds watching their sheep. The owners recently planted truffiers (oak trees that allow truffles to grow), and offer morning truffle hunting demonstrations with their shaggy brown dog Toupie. If you’re lucky, they’ll even add a few home-grown truffles to your breakfast eggs! Or you pick some up (along with other local produce, like foie-gras, soap, walnuts, wine…) in the hotel shop.
