Treetops is tucked away on a vast wilderness game reserve about 30 minutes south of the city. You'll feel like you've left civilization behind, in a highly civilized fashion, of course, when you enter the big villas here, as they boast floor to ceiling windows to let nature come streaming in. That's not to say they don't have creature comforts, they do, in spades—fine linens, even finer mattresses, comfortable squashy couches and armchairs, superb service. It’s one of the most renowned lodges in New Zealand. A sublime stay.
