If you are looking to get away from the hubbub of the beach resorts to a more rural, hillside setting—yet one that is still only a five-minute walk (or free shuttle) from the sands of Flavors Beach—the Cardiff is your answer.

Formerly known as the HEART hotel, the Cardiff was rebranded and overhauled in 2012, though is still staffed by a mix of pros and students at the affiliated HEART Trust/NTA hospitality school. This must account for traditional quality to the impeccable service, both in the simple, sizeable rooms with ocean views over the trees and in the rather formal restaurant with its Jamaican-International fusion cuisine. Dine on the terrace if possible, and note that the food is a bit overpriced when compared to the bargain of the rooms. The lack of evening entertainment and frenetic resort activities is a boon for those seeking peace and quiet.
