This lovely, carefully restored boutique inn is one of the most delightful places to overnight in Israel. Each room is different, but they share a design aesthetic that blends the ancient “bones” of the house—stone walls, arched ceilings and windows—with handsome modern furnishings and splashes of deep jewel-like color, either on the bed’s throw or on one wall of the room (just enough to give the rooms life, but not so much that they look gaudy). Run by owners Bernay and Jeff Katz—they have a special gift for hospitality—the nighly rate includes a truly gourmet breakfast and tea and snacks throughout the day. the Inn helps you feel the magic of Safed’s mysterious, sometimes elusive atmosphere. On Shabbat, when restaurants are closed in Safed, a wonderful country brunch can be ordered. Jeff is a licensed guide and so a wonderful source for what to see and do in town. Call ahead for directions and help with baggage; parking is difficult and somewhat far away. Sorry, children under 12 are not welcome.
