Bat Ya’ar Ranch Steak House

This steak house and horse ranch, set in the rugged, wooded hills, will make you think a chunk of Wyoming somehow fell from the sky and landed in the Galilee. A good map or careful instructions from the restaurant, and strong bright lights on your car are necessary to get here. And when you see a series of rough wooden buildings, set near a beautiful viewpoint, stop: That’s the restaurant! Grilled steaks, chicken and burgers are served with fries or baked potato and salad in a rugged, cowboy-style room. The quality is topnotch, and the fresh air and panoramas will invite a pre- or post-dinner stroll. There’s a playground for children on the grounds. It’s out of character for Safed (or even for the Middle East) but Israel is filled with surprises. Reservations necessary.
