As a university town and a major harbor, Salerno has a lively nightlife and cultural scene, with a large number of clubs, discos, and cafes. Among the places to hang out, we recommend the Bogart Café, Via Vernieri 85 (tel. 089-2960356), which turns into a disco on weekends. Dolce Vita, Via del Navigatori, Pontecagnano (tel. 348-1451089), is a big, very popular dance venue on the seafront just south of Salerno with restaurants, bars, and multiple dance floors that features big name DJs; it's open from May until October. Non ho Sonno ("I'm not sleepy!") is its wintertime counterpart, located just across the same street. It is open from November until April. For more upscale nightlife, heading the top of the list is Teatro Verdi, Largo Luciani (tel. 089-662141; www.teatroverdisalerno.it; daily 8am-2pm and 4-8pm), which, true to its namesake, is the venue for Italian opera, but also presents classic or contemporary plays, as well as concerts and dance performances.
