Getting There -- Regular trains arrive from Avignon and Marseille, with less frequent service from Aix-en-Provence. For more information, call tel. 36-35, or visit www.voyages-sncf.com. From Aix-en-Provence, daily buses make the trip to downtown Salon de Provence's place Morgan; for bus information, call tel. 08-91-02-40-25. If you're driving, Salon-de-Provence is strategically located at the junction of highways connecting Avignon with Aix-en-Provence (N7), and Marseille with Arles and Nîmes (N113), as well as the A7 and A54 autoroutes.
Visitor Information -- The Office de Tourisme is at 56 cours Gimon (tel. 04-90-56-27-60; www.visitsalondeprovence.com). Ask about the Pass Avantages Séjour, which gives discounts on entry to attractions as well as some boutiques. The tourist office also organizes free guided tours called Flâneries that take visitors behind the scenes of local attractions during the spring and summer.
Special Events -- The Chateau de l'Empéri is the enchanting backdrop for the summertime Musique à l'Empéri festival of classical music (tel. 04-90-56-00-82; www.festival-salon.fr). For almost 2 weeks in July and August, the medieval courtyard of the Château de l'Empéri hosts world-renowned orchestras and soloists. The town's streets become the stage for October's Salon Public festival, when actors and circus performers put on shows all around Salon-de-Provence.
