Getting There -- Salt Spring Island is served by three different routes on BC Ferries (tel. 888/BCFERRY [223-3779] or 250/381-5452; www.bcferries.com). From Tsawwassen on the mainland, ferries depart two to four times a day for Long Harbour, on the island's northeast coast. If you're on Vancouver Island, you can choose the Crofton-Vesuvius Bay run or the Swartz Bay (Victoria) to Fulford Harbour crossing.

Regular floatplane service operates from Vancouver International Airport and Vancouver's Inner Harbour seaplane terminal to Ganges Harbour.

Visitor Information -- The Salt Spring Chamber of Commerce operates a visitor center at 121 Lower Ganges Rd., Salt Spring Island, BC V8K 2T1 (tel. 250/537-5252; www.saltspringtourism.com).

Getting Around -- If you don't have a car, you will need to rely on a bike or call Silver Shadow Taxi (tel. 250/537-3030). There are morning and late afternoon scheduled services for commuters and students; charters are also available. The taxi leaves from Government Dock in Ganges Harbour. Fares are C$15 from any one point to another, or C$25 for a round-trip. Reservations are recommended; bikes are transported free of charge.
