Salta's oldest religious building was declared a Historical National Monument in 1941. It's worthy of a walk by to admire the city's most impressive example of colonial and indigenous art (only Carmelite nuns are allowed to enter). Indigenous craftsmen carved the entrance from a carob tree in 1762.
