This revitalized designer property lies directly on the water, with a panoramic view of the historic old town of Salzburg. The hotel is within an 18th-century, six-story building that was radically modernized and upgraded. The Stein was refitted with a contemporary look, from shiny fabrics on beds and upholstery, to flat-screen TVs. The bedrooms, ranging from beautifully furnished doubles to luxurious suites, are well appointed, with state-of-the-art private marble bathrooms and extra-large beds. Suites have leather bedspreads, leather upholsteries, and zebra-skin patterns on some of the in-room fabrics. Other rooms are outfitted in either a "Mozart" motif (that is, vaguely rococo patterns) or the "Stein" design (conservatively modern). The rooftop café has accurately been called divine. After a restful night's sleep, guests are served a breakfast buffet in an atmospheric dining salon. The hotel is only about a 10-minute walk from the main train station.
