The Bräustübl, also called Müllner Bräu, is nothing less than Austria's largest beer hall, filling a massive space with vaulted ceilings, wood paneling, and 1,500 extra seats in the outdoor garden come summer. Beer has been brewed here since 1621 and the house seeps traditions from every crevice. One is self-service. To get beer, you order a token from the cashier, rinse out the mug (whether it's already clean or not—the rinsing is ceremonial), and get in line to tap the good stuff straight from a wooden barrel. Along what looks like a traditional market hall are food and snack stalls. Feel free to bring your own food, though, as it's much less expensive and explicitly allowed. Bring cash, too—credit and debit cards are not accepted.
