As mentioned, there is no local government-sponsored tourist office. However, the somewhat misleadingly named Samaná Tourist Service, Av. La Marina 6 (tel. 809/538-3322; www.samanaonline.com), is a font of information about the area and can take care of most of your travel needs. Hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 3pm.

Offering emergency medical service 24 hours a day is Centro Médico San Vicente, Francisco del Rosario Sánchez 2 (tel. 809/538-2535). For Internet access, go to CompuCenter Samaná, Calle Lavandier (tel. 809/538-3146), open Monday to Friday 9am to 12:30pm and 3 to 6pm. The cost is RD$105 for 30 minutes or RD$140 for 1 hour. The Western Union office is at Francisco del Rosario Sánchez 15 (tel. 809/538-2195).

Getting Around

Auceen Raid Adventure and Fun Rental, Calle Principal/Sanchez Highway, Las Terrenas (tel. 809/240-6784) has an array of vehicles, including 4-wheel quads, motorcycles, motorbikes, and scooters. You can rent direct from this outfit or else you can ask your hotel front desk to make arrangements for you. Prices are reasonable, beginning at US$15 per day for a scooter or motorbike, or US$19 for a motorcycle, US$44 for a 4-wheel quad.
