The Majestic Theatre introduced air-conditioning to San Antonio -- the hall was billed as "an acre of cool, comfortable seats" -- and society women wore fur coats to its opening, held on a warm June night in 1929. The Empire Theatre, which is just around the corner, is a little smaller but is not far behind in swankiness. Nowadays, they are managed by the same company and host a variety of performances, including the symphony, traveling Broadway productions, and a variety of musical and theater acts, mostly roadshows.
