Established in 1729 by a grant from the king of Spain, this park built around the headwaters of San Pedro Creek is often said to be the second-oldest municipal park in the United States (the oldest being Boston Common). Located at the south end of the Alta Vista neighborhood, just north of downtown, it has a spring-fed swimming pool, tennis courts, a playground, entertainment gazebo, and the Public Theater of San Antonio.
