For a good take on the lay of the land, just circle the eight panoramic panels on the observation deck of the Tower of the Americas, a 750-foot-high tower built for the HemisFair in 1968. Sitting at the equivalent of 59 stories, the deck is lit for spectacular night viewing. Also included in the price of admission: A 4D helicopter simulation “Skies Over Texas” ride. The tower also hosts the rotating Chart House restaurant with surprisingly decent food (for the revolving genre), as well as a thankfully stationary cocktail lounge.
