Don’t expect cell-like rooms in this five-story landmark, even though the 1879 building was once the Bexar County Jail. A total gut of the structure created spacious rooms—even the bathrooms are larger than those you might normally see in this price range. All offer microwaves and refrigerators; a complimentary hot breakfast adds to the value. The hotel is in the western part of downtown, close to Market Square, the San Fernando Cathedral, and the Spanish Governor’s Palace. Note: The fact that many prisoners were executed in this building makes it a stop on several ghost tours.
