Located just east of downtown, the Carver theater was built by the city’s African-American community in 1929, and over the years hosted the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie “Bird” Parker, and Dizzy Gillespie. It continues to serve the community while providing a widely popular venue for an international array of performers in various genres, including drama, music, and dance.
