This casual and modern Tuscan-style Italian trattoria, one of San Antonio's best restaurants, is just steps from LaVillita in the historic Fairmount Hotel. The kitchen is overseen by popular local chef Jason Dady, who has been a semi-finalist in James Beard Foundation awards. This is but one of many Dady-owned S.A. restaurants, and he even has another Tre Trattoria in Alamo Heights on Broadway. We like this Fairmount location best because we can walk from downtown, and the space is so appealing. The restaurant is well-lit, not too noisy, and offers views of HemisFair Park across the street. The menu features traditional pasta dishes, antipasti, salami, signature wood-fired pizzas, and fresh, simply prepared options like grilled trout. Handmade-daily pan-seared gnocchi comes in flavors like creamy Gorgonzola and San Marzano fresca. The lunch menu offers pizzas made on the griddle in a cast-iron skillet, for a hardy deep-dish option. The wine list covers every region in Italy and offers both quartino (carafe) and bottle service, and you'll be able to find your favorite Brunello on reserve here. The full bar also offers hand-crafted cocktails. Another plus? Tre Trattoria is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, so there's never a time when you can't get a good meal downtown. They also offer a real treat on Saturdays and Sundays: a delightful fresh brunch with $1 mimosas that come in your choice of four flavors. I'm mad about the "Tre Mimosa," a pomegranate juice version with thyme-infused simple syrup. Of course, there's always the classic with OJ, or the peach Bellini. So many mimosas, so little time.
