This small museum in the 1927 Chinese Mission is the heart of downtown's small Asian Pacific Historic District. With photos and text, the museum explains the history of a Chinatown that thrived in mid to late 1900s in the Stingaree red light district. The museum also serves as a cultural and educational center, presenting Chinese music concerts, lectures, and celebrations for Chinese New Year and other holidays (check the website to see if special events will be happening when you’re in town). Free museum tours are held the first Saturday of every month at 11:00am. Walking tours of the Asian Pacific Historic District, including 19th century Chinese, Japanese, and Filipino neighborhoods start here on the second Saturday of the month at 11am; the cost is $4. There's a small garden with a statue of Confucius and a gift shop; allow about a half-hour to tour the complex.
