Given the reasonable room rates this standard chain hotel deserves consideration. It’s within a 5 to 10 minute walk of the Embarcadero, Little Italy, the train station, and Gaslamp Quarter, and the hotel's location on a side street lessens street noise and crowds. Rooms are standard, clean, and functional, with one or two beds and small desks, cabinets with mini fridge and microwave, mirrored sliding doors on the foyer closet, and a tub-shower combo in the bath. Carpeting, lines, and drapes are all fresh and clean and even the smallest rooms have enough space for a couple of suitcases. Some larger rooms have balconies and seating areas. Naturally, views are best from the highest of the 14 stories; ask ahead for a bay view (the Bayside name is misleading). The courtesy shuttle to the airport, train station, and cruise ship pier is a big plus, and though the outdoor pool is small, it's a pleasant place to cool off after sightseeing.
