Aaah…La V. This luxury hotel overlooking La Jolla Cove has been a local landmark since its debut in 1926. A Mediterranean-style beauty framed by lush bougainvillea and palm trees, "The Pink Lady" enchants visitors with its old-world elegance and stunning ocean vistas. The rooms, updated in the spring of 2013, vary quite a bit in terms of size and views (as well as cost), but all boast Italian Frette linens, plantation shutters, and marble bathrooms. Other amenities include a sparkling pool, a new fitness center and in-room spa services. In the '30s and '40s the property was a playground for Hollywood getawayers such as Charlie Chaplin and Greta Garbo, and today a healthy mix of locals and tourists enjoy the venue. Several dining and drinking options are available, including the new bistro and bar, Café La Rue, and the always inviting La Sala, a Spanish-flavored lounge with plush couches, gorgeous ocean views, and piano entertainment in the evenings. Note that minimum stays may be required in summer and on weekends.
