Among my favorite go-to lodgings for family and friends, this Mission Bay old-timer covers all the bases. The Sixties-era original buildings still hold small, modest motel-like rooms where sandy kids can't destroy the dark carpeting and bedspreads. Many are located around the pool areas and gardens. All units have mini fridge, microwave, and coffeemaker. The 74 rooms and 12 suites added during a 2004 remodel are located in two three-story buildings at the bay's edge. They're larger and brighter, with private terraces or balconies. The marina's boat slips, paddleboards, wave runners and other toys are a big draw, as are rental bikes for touring Mission Bay's endless bike paths and shuttles to local attractions including Sea World right across the water from the 10-acre resort. A resort fee covers the shuttle, Wi-Fi, a coupon book and other goodies.
