First, be forewarned. This cavernous, Mexican fiesta-themed, multi-room restaurant is not your best choice for romance or conversation. But it is the place to go if you want to hear excellent mariachis amid a whirlwind of papeles picado (hanging paper cutouts), sombreros, piñatas and waitresses in ruffled, embroidered dresses. Bountiful servings of decent Mexican standards come on painted pottery plates, the most popular margaritas are birdbath sized (you can go smaller) and large tables of happy diners celebrating birthdays and such are common. All that said, the menu has some excellent dishes, including the carnitas (marinated pork), cochinita pibil (pork Yucatan-style) and shrimp with a spicy chipotle salsa. It’s a great choice for kids and upbeat celebrations.
