Here’s a decent option for the traveler on a budget who doesn’t mind a busy street. Set in a 1920s Victorian building, the rooms, updated in 2017, still have a Victorian feel, with patterned wallpaper and dark paneling; rooms with bay windows are especially nice. (If you’re traveling alone, however, steer clear of the single-bed rooms, as they’re a bit stark.) Unless you’re a sound sleeper, things can get noisy if your room is close to busy Lombard Street, so ask for a room in the back. With prices as low as $50 for a double, it’s hard to find a better deal in the city, but drivers take heed—the inn doesn’t offer parking and street parking in the neighborhood is generally limited to 2 hours.
