Not quite a B&B, and much too hip to call itself a boutique hotel, Sleep Over Sauce is something all its own. The three brothers who run it call it an urban guesthouse for those seeking the comforts of home and friendly neighborhood living. It consists of eight cozy rooms (with comfortable beds and fresh bathrooms) and a living room complete with a fireplace over the award-winning restaurant Sauce. Located in the center of the city, the hotel makes a great base for visitors who want to see more than Fisherman’s Wharf. Most of the city’s performing arts venues, as well as the fabulous Asian Art Museum, are a short walk away. The Mission District, Japantown, Castro, and Haight-Ashbury neighborhoods can be reached by Muni in a few minutes, and the historic F-line will take guests to Union Square and Fisherman’s Wharf. Don’t look for a front desk—guests check in at the bar.
