“Fast-casual” is quickly becoming the new norm for San Francisco restaurateurs as they seek to offset the soaring costs of doing business in this city. Still, it’s pretty awesome to come to this casual counter-service joint (by the team behind high-end Rich Table, see above), where you can order outstanding rotisserie chicken by the whole or half (with an eclectic mix of optional sauces) or grab a sandwich or soup or salad for under $12. (Don’t miss the cauliflower.) Not surprising, the sides are a step up from the norm—think fries dusted with porcini and rice powder, or charred cabbage with almonds. Grab a Mexican Coke or some wine or beer and finish with a soft serve, all of which can be enjoyed at one of the wood tables or taken to go.
